This tool follows the most common age system used in many countries.

• Your age increases on your birthday.
• Example: If someone has lived 3 years and 11 months, their age is shown as 3 years.
• After the next birthday, it becomes 4 years.

Age may be counted differently in some cultures

Some cultures count age in a different way.

• Some people describe age as the year of life they are in, not only completed years.
• In one traditional Chinese system, a baby may be considered 1 year old at birth, and age may increase at the Chinese New Year (not on the birthday).

Because of this, the same person’s age can look different depending on the system used.

Why months and days can look confusing

Months do not have the same number of days (28 to 31). So, when dates are near the end of a month, the “months + days” part can look unusual.

Example: Feb 28, 2022 to Mar 31, 2022

There are two common ways to count it:

• Feb 28 to Mar 28 = 1 month, plus 3 more days = 1 month, 3 days
• If both dates are treated as month-end dates, some people may call it 1 month

Both can sound correct in real life, but a calculator must follow one rule every time.
This calculator uses the first method (count full months first, then add remaining days).
